THA is Now Smoke-Free: Resources for Quitting

January 7, 2016

As of Jan. 1, THA is officially smoke free.
Our three-phase smoke-free plan began in March 2014 and on Jan. 1, phase III took effect, banning smoking in all units.
The move will protect residents, including the elderly and children, from second-hand smoke and protect apartments from damage.
While residents who smoke are not required to quit, some may want to consider it. A number of resources are available for those who need help quitting.
See below flyer for information, location and dates of The Butt Stops Here program, a six-week program held throughout the year at a number of locations in the Capital District.
The program could be held at a THA site if there is enough interest. If interested, please contact THA at 273-3600 ext. 239, email info@troyhousing.org, or tell your site manager.
Other resources are available at nysmokefree.com or by calling 1-866-NY-QUITS (1-866-697-8487).
THA is one of more than 600 Public Housing Authorities nationwide to go smoke-free, and recently, HUD Secretary Julian Castro proposed a rule to make all U.S. public housing smoke free. Read more about the proposed rule here. HUD is accepting public comment on the rule until Jan. 19.
Read the Troy Record’s coverage of our transition to smoke-free housing here.
THA worked with the Capital District Tobacco-Free Coalition and Smoke-Free NY on the initiative.
